Silly but Safe

Silly but Safe, a comic book of „practical tales“ for children, written and illustrated by Croatian artist Ivan Tudek, offers to the reader a handful of funny and edifying stories about friendship, mutual understanding and tolerance. The comic book format allowed Tudek to portrait human problems in dynamic and funny short cuts, and to develop a peculiar sort of goofiness through the visual aspect of his characters.

“A duck and a swan lived on a lake. Although it lived on the lake, the duck didn’t like water, so it always stayed on a small island in the middle. The swan was sad because he had to swim alone. Eager to help, a cow and two weasels, who lived nearby, came up with an idea to trick the duck. Out of straw and grass they made a false island, tied a rope around it and placed it on the water. When the duck saw the “island”, it wanted to try it. But just as the duck was about to land, the cow pulled the rope and the duck fell into the lake! It was the first time the duck actually felt the water… and liked it! From that moment on, the swan didn’t have to swim alone anymore.”
